Laura Nolan joined DeFiore and Company in 2010 after nearly two decades in the publishing industry, most recently as an agent with The Creative Culture. She represents non-fiction exclusively and is most interested in working as an editorial and publishing partner with writers and experts who think of themselves as brands, who are passionate about their area of expertise and are eager to expand and promote their work through books and other media.
Laura was a literary agent for 10 years but then left in 2000 to join Barnes & Noble.com where she helped launch Barnes & Noble Digital, an eBook publishing division. She then moved to Barnes & Noble in 2003 to help launch a short-lived trade publishing division; but returned to being an agent in 2005, bringing with her an extensive knowledge of the inner workings of the book retail business. Laura also remains committed to being at the forefront of the ever-changing digital landscape and as an active member of the Association of Author's Representatives Electronic Publishing Committee where she helps to clarify digital issues and bring new opportunities to her clients.
Laura is currently looking for both narrative and practical non-fiction and is particularly passionate about food writing (both narrative and cookbooks), education, lifestyle books that enhance personal well-being, books on cultural and social issues, and memoir with an international or food angle.
