Brian DeFiore started DeFiore and Company in 1999, after close to twenty years as an editor and an executive at several major publishing houses, including Random House, Hyperion, Dell Publishing and St. Martin's Press.
Kate Garrick, an agent and Foreign Rights Director at the agency, joined in 2002.
Laurie Abkemeier, a former editor and colleague of Brian DeFiore's from Hyperion, joined the agency in 2003.
The company has sold well over 100 book projects to publishers large and small. In the last few years, the company has had nine New York Times bestsellers and dozens of additional titles on regional and chain store bestseller lists around the country. Our books have been published in dozens of languages around the world, and several have been sold as major motion picture and television properties.
