DEFIORE AND COMPANY ANNOUNCES MAJOR COMPANY EXPANSION

Brian DeFiore of DeFiore and Company announced today a major expansion of his agency with the addition of four new agents, Debra Goldstein, Laura Nolan, Matthew Elblonk and Karen Gerwin. The four, formerly of the agency The Creative Culture, which was founded in 1998 by Ms. Goldstein and Mary Ann Naples (who recently joined the start-up e-commerce site OpenSky) will join current DeFiore and Co. agents Laurie Abkemeier, Kate Garrick, Adam Korn and Adam Schear on March 1st. With nine agents and additional support staff, DeFiore and Co. is now a solidly mid-size agency with a broad list of non-fiction and fiction authors for adults and young adults. Clients that they bring to the agency include Lauren Conrad (LA CANDY) , Danica McKellar (MATH DOESN'T SUCK), SARK (SUCCULENT WILD WOMAN), Stacy Morrison, Lou Paget, MJ Ryan, Frances Cole Jones, Dr. Neal Barnard, and Gesine Bullock-Prado.

THE CW GIVES THE GREEN LIGHT TO CHEER!

The CW has given WBTV and Tom Welling Productions a green light to produce a pilot presentation for a drama series called "Hellcats," based on CHEER: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders by Kate Torgovnick (Touchstone, 2008).

PRANK BOOKS OPTIONED FOR TELEVISION

CHEER! Heads to the Small Screen

Kate Torgovnick's CHEER!: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders was optioned to Warner Bros Television and Tom Welling Productions for development as a drama series for the CW, with Kevin Murphy ("Desperate Housewives") attached to write. "I read the book, got halfway into it and said, 'We have to do this,' " Murphy told Variety. "It's a group of people that for them, it's all about winning. Any time you have a series about people who want something desperately, it's fodder for a fantastic soap opera." Murphy will exec produce with Welling and A.J. Marcantonio, who heads up Welling's company. Murphy said he imagines the show as a cross between Election, Saved and Heathers.
